Domain Selling FAQ
Find answers about listing domains, choosing a price, receiving offers, negotiating with buyers, completing transfers, getting paid, and using broker-assisted selling on Name.ai.
Getting started
Yes. Create a free seller account to list, manage offers, and receive payouts.
No minimum for self-listing. For broker-assisted selling, we assess suitability during the application.
Nothing upfront on the self-list track — commission applies only when the domain sells, and the rate is shown before you confirm the listing. See Fees & Payouts for the full breakdown.
Listing and supported domains
Any domain you legally own on a supported TLD. See Supported TLDs for the full list and any verification requirements.
Yes. You don't need to transfer to Name.ai to list. We verify ownership and manage the transfer only when a sale completes.
Listings remain active until sold, paused, or delisted. There's no expiry on listings.
Yes. However, ensure you have a system to remove listings from other platforms promptly if sold on Name.ai — selling the same domain twice creates legal and reputational issues.
Pricing and offers
Use Price Guidance before setting your price. It combines comparable sales, TLD trends and current buyer demand into a recommended range with a confidence level. Top .AI sales are a useful comparison set if you are selling a .ai.
Yes. Update your price anytime from your Seller Dashboard, as long as there's no active accepted offer in escrow.
Generally yes. Buyers who can negotiate are more likely to engage. You stay in full control — you can accept, counter, or decline any offer.
Offers and negotiations
You'll receive an email notification and an in-app notification in your Seller Dashboard.
You have three options: accept, counter with a different price, or decline — all from your dashboard. We recommend responding within 48 hours, since buyers may withdraw an offer if there is no response.
All negotiation happens through the Name.ai platform — we don't facilitate direct communication between buyers and sellers until a deal is agreed and escrow activates.
Yes. You can set auto-decline rules for offers below a threshold in your dashboard settings.
Transfers and payouts
Escrow activates. The buyer's payment is held securely. Our team initiates the domain transfer process.
Average 48 hours. Our team manages the process end-to-end and keeps both parties updated.
Once the buyer confirms receipt of the domain, escrow releases your payout within 24 hours, and the bank transfer arrives within 1–3 business days. See Fees & Payouts for the full timeline.
Our team follows up with the buyer. If genuinely unresponsive, we have processes to resolve this. Escrow ensures your payment is secured before the transfer begins.
Cancellation after escrow activates has implications. Contact our support team immediately if you need to cancel — we'll advise on the situation.
Broker-assisted selling
Your broker values the domain, develops a target buyer list, conducts active outreach, handles negotiations, and manages closing. You approve any offer before it is accepted. The brokerage guide explains the process in full.
Submit an application from the Sell menu. We review within 48 hours and respond with approval, questions, or a recommendation to self-list.
Typically: strong brandability, a .ai / .com / .io TLD, realistic market value of $5,000+, and no existing active buyer interest that would make self-listing equally effective.
Disclosed upon application approval. Tiered by deal size. No charge if the broker doesn't close.
